“Runaway Radio” scores major wins at the 32nd Annual Communicator Awards
Runaway Radio, the documentary about 101 KLOL’s legacy in Houston radio, has won in two categories at the 32nd Annual Communicator Awards.
Directed and produced by Mike McGuff, the film earned the highest distinction, the Award of Excellence, in both the General-Documentary and General-History & Biography categories.
McGuff also took home a third Award of Excellence for his video marketing work with McGuff Media.
This latest recognition adds to the film’s growing accolades, which include winning the prestigious Texas Independent Film Award (TIFA) for best Texas-made film from the Houston Film Critics Society at their 18th annual awards.
This year’s competition drew more than 3,000 entries from ad agencies, global brands, digital agencies, production studios, in-house creative teams, graphic designers, design firms, and public relations agencies.
Among the 2026 Award of Excellence winners were organizations including The Walt Disney Company, Special Olympics, PepsiCo, PwC, Marriott International, Lenovo, and Penn Medicine.
