Rock Auction
The Rock and Roll Auctions were a significant and successful annual charitable event organized by 101 KLOL Houston.
The auctions primarily served as a charitable activity, raising substantial amounts of money for various causes. For instance, one auction raised $85,000 for the homeless, and the AIDS Foundation Houston was a major beneficiary. The event aimed to “super serve the community” through philanthropy.
The auctions ran for ten years. They started small, with the first one held at Cactus Records in Sharpstown Mall. By the second year, they invited celebrity auctioneers. The event later moved to the parking lot of the Hard Rock Cafe and eventually to the Summit, where it remained for its final years, drawing large crowds of 8,000, 10,000, or even 12,000 people.
Notable participants included: Joe Walsh (of the Eagles), Joan Jett, Steven Tyler (of Aerosmith), Vince Neil (of Mötley Crüe), John Bon Jovi, Paul Rodgers (from Bad Company), Martha Quinn (MTV VJ), Mark Goodman (from MTV), Earl Slick (guitarist for John Lennon and David Bowie), Jeff Watson (of Night Ranger), Brad Gillis (from Night Ranger).

Over 7,000 people turned out for the 101 KLOL 1988 5th annual Rock N’ Roll Auction, held Saturday, April 23rd in Houston’s Summit Arena, setting a new attendance record for the charity event.
