K101 1986 3rd Annual Rock N’ Roll Auction

K101-FM, as it was known back then, threw its 3rd Annual Rock N’ Roll Auction, Saturday, March 15, 1986, at 2 p.m. at the Fizz club located at 6400 Richmond in Houston’s one-time club district.
The all-ages event was free and open to the public, and promised to be a high-energy afternoon filled with rock memorabilia, celebrity sightings, and generous giving.
If you’ve watched “Runaway Radio” on streaming, DVD, or at a Houston screening, then you know about the 101 KLOL Rock N’ Roll Auctions that were held over the years.
In the documentary, we feature Joan Jett and Steven Tyler/Joe Perry of Aerosmith in attendance at one of the first Rock and Roll Auctions at Cactus Records in Sharpstown Mall before it eventually moved to the much larger space at the Houston Summit arena (now Lakewood Church).
Over the years, some of the details of the early Rock N’ Roll Auctions were lost to time, but starting in 1986, we have more of an idea of what was happening.

The auction benefited the Ronnie Lane Foundation for Multiple Sclerosis, supporting research and awareness of the disease that affected the former Small Faces and Faces bassist, Ronnie Lane.
